SELLING MISSION TO CHINA

A Philippine Delegation led by Senior Undersecretary Thomas G. Aquino was in China on 25 March - 3 April 2006 for various bilateral government-to-government meetings in Beijing, and to conduct trade and investment promotion works in Guangdong, Hebei, Anhui and Zhejiang provinces as well as in Shanghai.

RP Delegation was able to obtain from the Chinese government and private sector renewed support to investment projects in RP. On the automotive industry, the Governor of Anhui Province acknowledged and committed support to the investments plans of Jianghuai Automobile Co. Ltd. (JAC) to assemble initially mini trucks/vans in the Philippines together with Empire Holdings Corp., a locator in the Subic Bay Freeport.

The Agreement between Empire Holdings Corp. and Great Wall Motor Co. Ltd., (a lead manufacturer and exporter of SUVs and pick-ups) on the assembly of affordable brand new SUVs in the Philippines was executed during the same trip.

Objective

• To firm up commitments made both by the RP Delegation and the Chinese Automotive Industry

• Local automotive industry to propose/offer their products with the objective of drawing investments and entering into supply agreements with, more particularly but not limited to the following automotive companies which were visited by the RP Delegation
